Our goal is to develop in our students the skills of inquiry and problem-solving which they can apply in authentic, every-day situations through experiential learning opportunities.

Aligned to MOE’s direction, our science curriculum seeks to enable students to see science as meaningful and useful. Through the curriculum, the spirit of scientific inquiry will be inculcated. The conduct of inquiry-based lessons will be founded on three integral domains, which are: (a) Knowledge, Understanding and Application, (b) Skills and Processes and (c) Ethics and Attitudes, all of which are essential to the practice of science. Students will explore issues and questions that are related to the roles played by science in daily life, society and the environment.

In Punggol Cove Primary School, we want every student to enjoy learning in a conducive school environment that supports a broad, meaningful and holistic education. At the Eco – garden, our students get to see the content in their science textbooks come to life when they get to observe the flora and fauna in the garden and solve questions about them during the school-based Science learning trails.

Our school aims to provide students with learning experiences that are engaging to develop the process of scientific thinking, and help students relate the role of Science to their daily life and the environment. To enhance the students’ learning of Science concepts, a myriad of activities are planned for them.


SC 4.jpgBy adopting a student – centric approach in our curriculum, instruction and assessment, we strive to develop in our students the 21st Century competencies. Problem-solving skills, inquiry-based learning and ICT tools have been infused into science lessons. 


The Science department hopes to instill a sense of environmental awareness among students in Punggol Cove Primary School. To achieve this, several initiatives have been put in place. These include, setting up an Environmental Science Club, having an environmental awareness week and introducing a Clean Plate Project.

The Clean Plate Project aims to reduce food waste among the student population. Through the Clean Plate Project, students will learn to order only food that they can finish. Food wastes, which include orange peel and watermelon peel, will be placed into a food composter.  Currently, the Clean Plate Project has been put on trial and is undertaken by some teachers on a small scale. The Project will be rolled out to a larger school population in the subsequent months.
